This morning we found an active pod of 2 whales 2nm off Mooloolaba, just 20mins into our trip. The male and female pair were playing in the beautiful, calm water around our boat for 50 mins. We saw a great display of pec slaps, tail slaps and tail lobbing right beside us. We pod hopped our way back to Old Woman Island where we saw some turtles, before cruising past the HMS Brisbane which looked awesome in the crystal clear water.
This afternoon we had an amazing experience with a pod of two males 4nm south of Mooloolaba. As we neared, they swam straight up to us and mugged our boat for two hours. They were playing with us, doing take off head lunges right beside the boat and returning to look at our reactions. Their lunges, pec slaps and tail slaps showed us that ‘Wally’ has much darker markings on his chin and tail than ‘Wez’. Everyone even managed to get a selfie with a whale. We had such a breathtaking close encounter that today has to be an 11/10
