Picture perfect!
After the winds from yesterday dropped off early this morning, we were rewarded with an amazing day on the water. Not a cloud in the sky and visibility from Cape Moreton to Noosa. The calm seas meant we could see the spray from humpback whales breaching 6 miles away. We came across a competition pod of a dozen or more males all fighting for the attention of a female who was travelling with her brand new baby. The calf, the smallest one we have seen this season, was only about a day old and was sticking close to it’s mother in the commotion from the competing males. We had a spectacular encounter with this pod giving us over 45 minutes of non-stop surface time. One massive male joined the group and created quite a splash, impressing us with his speed and the spread of his footprint. We had a few close encounters with some of the males swimming right under the boat. The highlight for the afternoon was seeing the new born calf and one close peduncle throw.
