Wild One ventured out today, taking advantage of the gentle 1m Northern swells and NW winds. This morning we found our first pod within 5 mins at approx. 5nm from the coast. 2 sub-adults were tracking at 4kn southbound. They were quite placid with occasional tail slaps and one peduncle throw. Our guests were delighted when they also popped out for a cheeky spy hop ? We intercepted a pod of 4 rambunctious males, evident by the heavy scarring all over their bodies and fins. They had frequent course and speed changes, tracking playfully within inshore waters.

This afternoon we spotted a breach offshore, so tracked south towards Caloundra and found pod of 2 adults. These were also heavily scarred but this is not uncommon and competition pods are frequently seen this time of year. We drifted along at 2kn and the whales became curious, coming in close to investigate us. They spent 30mins cruising next to the vessel, diving under and popping out the other side. They treated Wild One like a third member of their pod. We had some amazing close encounters with the whales showing us their white belly undersides and playing beside us with frequent tail flukes. We saw a breach close to shore so tracked inshore within half a mile from Kings Beach and found the same group of 4 males from this morning. Playing and darting about.
