This morning we travelled 4nm off coast and spotted several elusive pods swimming along at 10 knots. They were not interested in us so we continued north. We headed towards a whale that was breaching and doing fluke up dives in the distance and when we were directly in front of Mt Coolum we were rewarded with a mother and her very active calf. The calf was inquisitive and came right up to the boat, swimming around us and breaching right beside the boat.
During our afternoon cruise we came across a 4-year-old Male who showed us every action a Humpback whale is famous for. He swam right up beside the boat and was playing with us and feeding off the people’s enthusiasm. He maneuvered to the front of the boat and did several peduncle throws right beside the boat to wet people. The best display of showing off we have seen this season. He followed that with some pec slaps and mugged the boat for 15-20 mins before his grand finale of 10 breaches right beside us.
Today was definitely a 10/10 day!
