We had a lovely sunny day out on the water with flatter conditions and a bit of wind chop! We ventured out about 5 nautical miles and saw out first mother and calf for the day. These two stuck with us for sometimes around 50 minutes of viewing time. We had two close encounters with these two gentle giants.
This afternoons cruise had improved weather conditions and swell had dropped a little. On our way out we spotted a peduncle throw in the distance about 3.5 nautical miles offshore, on approaching we discovered another mother and calf. This calf was thought to be about a week old and was still light grey in colour. We spend sometime with them and towards the end of our encounter the mother came closer to show us her beautiful baby.
