Whale Watching Report Wednesday 30th August

This morning we had 3 pods of humpback whales spotted, our first just minutes out of the river mouth! This calf was showing off in front of us as he breached non-stop! and his mum gave us a head lunge.
Our second pod was a quiet mum and calf and our third pod for the day was 2 adults who were calmly cruising along!
Dolphins and turtles were also spotted on our morning trip, how lucky are we!

This afternoon the same mother and calf from the morning who must of hung around for the day were spotted. This mother and calf duo were spotted 850 metres off the headland, giving us some head lunges and tail flicks. Further out we saw a rather active male who was about 4 or 5 years. He was waving us over to say hello as he pec slapped the water. following his warm welcome he slapped and lobbed his tail.
Just when we thought our day was over we spotted a competition pod of 8 massive whales! A competition pod is a pod of males biding for a females attention. Commonly their behaviour is boisterous and rough, which these gentlemen were definitely displaying. These guys had beautiful markings and the show of them pushing each other was awesome. They even escorted us back to the river mouth and wanted to hang out with us for a little longer!
