This morning’s trip saw several pods of whales off shore from Mooloolaba. Our first pod of 3 was only 3 nautical miles off shore. Further out at 4 nautical miles we spotted a pod of 2 male adult humpback whales. These two gentlemen mugged our boat for about 20-30 mins, swimming under the boat and doing a spy hop which was up very close indeed. Water visibility was spectacular, crystal clear as we travelled past Old Woman Island spotting a few green sea turtles on the way.
This afternoon the excellent weather conditions continued as we headed out for our second trip of the day. The whales were very relaxed as we spotted a pod off Mooloolaba heading south. These whales were cruising slowly giving us some surface time before having long down times. They showed off their tails as they dove with their flukes up.
