Pod of 12 Whales only 3 miles out off Coolum we spent 1 hour with them. These were a competition pod who were pushing and shoving. To our delight we saw 8 to 9 whales blowing in succession. One poor whale had one side of his tail fluke missing!
Later in the afternoon 10 mile out we saw breaches in the distance! We found a pod of 2 sub-adults who mugged our boat for 20-30 minutes. These two displayed peduncle throws and were swimming along both sides of the boat. One of the whales had its head out of the water and eyeballed our passengers onboard. There was plenty of pec slapping and even showed off its black tail and black belly. We have seen a few whales with minimal white markings, this is unusual for the southern hemisphere as whales form the northern hemisphere usually have mostly black bodies!
