The morning trip was started in company with a lingering westerly wind but a beautiful clear sky. By the time we were five miles offshore with our first whale, the wind was dropping back to very light and the day just kept improving. The first adolescent humpback was on its own and very docile but also curious and possibly lonely! As soon as we pulled up, it was straight over to us and stayed with us for the best part of an hour. As the down-times got longer, we moved on and soon found another lone young whale. This one was also straight to the boat but didn’t stay around as long.
We moved on again and couldn’t find any more so returned to port.
The afternoon cruise had brilliant weather but the only whale found was very elusive with long down times and erratic directions made it impossible to follow. Gave up and enjoyed a cruise to Coolum and back before heading back home. Passengers were invited back for another trip to get the close encounters we want to offer.
