With the last day of Queensland school holidays today, we had two trips again in “ok” weather. Don’t know what westerlies are doing on the Sunshine Coast in October, but the 20 knots in the morning strengthened to 30 by mid-afternoon and made conditions difficult.
It’s just lucky the whales are in such abundance at present and the morning trip had fantastic close encounters as the calves are getting more and more confident and curious by the day. Really close encounters and great acrobatics as well kept all the passengers entertained.
The afternoon was a bit harder with it seeming to be rest time at the nursery. Perseverance prevailed in the end and we had some good viewing especially the powerful breaching encountered while heading home.
