Another picture perfect day on the Sunshine Coast and we had two trips out with our humpback visitors. The whales were a bit shy and elusive in the morning with long down times – possibly because of the numbers of boats out on the water with the fantastic weather. The water visibility was brilliant which meant the close encounters we had with a mother, calf and escort were highlights of the day.

The afternoon trip got off to a great start with a very energetic calf and mother found just outside the 3 mile coastal exclusion zone displaying a series of peduncle throws, tail slaps and general waving for ages before heading off down the coast. We followed and rewarded by a powerful breach by mum which showed what a huge whale she was. Several other pods were seen and turtles and dolphins slipped past the boat to make a very enjoyable cruise.
