It was a calm day out on the water today with a slight 10-15 knot breeze and a 1.5m swell. The first sighting was at 16 nautical miles and it was a beautiful sight to say the least. The sighting was of a mother and her new born calf. The mother was understandably timid and very protective of her calf, so in respect of the pair the vessel kept a reasonable distance of 150m. A pod of dolphins were also enjoying the company of the vessel coming in to ride the bow waves! This is a fantastic example of what whale watching is all about, being there to experience the thrill of seeing these majestic animals up close and knowing that their long migration has been worthwhile!
