On Tuesday morning sea conditions were calm, and we went 8 miles out to find our first whales, the two were having 15 minute down times and fluke up dives as they headed south. 9 miles out we were lucky to see a mother and calf on the surface, the calf would have only been less than a day old! We spent an hour watching them as the mother breached and performed fin slaps, pectoral slaps, and the baby practiced its moves too with tail slaps, a rollover and generalized play! Passengers on board couldn’t believe the energy of the mother and her new baby. With crystal clear water we could see them clearly as they spent time mugging the boat before they continued on North. We saw dolphins from afar and lots of turtles as we headed out.
