We decided not to travel out to sea this morning, but we ran an afternoon trip instead. Sea conditions had calmed down and we had 5 knot South Easterly winds with a 2m swell.
Our first wahle of the day was spotted 2 miles NE of Point Cartwright, and treated passengers to multiple breaches, pectoral slaps and tail slaps in upright and upside down positions. The whales also approached for some close encounters, keeping an eye on our passengers.
Part way through this scenario the first whale was joined by another single whale. Soon after this we had 4 common dolphins join the group, with one baby dolphin! The baby dolphin was quite lively with lots of attempted tail slaps and some jumping out of the water. It came completely above the water, so we could see it well!
Later, near Point Cartwright 2 whales performed a double breach, making for great photo opportunites. We also saw some whale blows further out from the boat, one near the shore and one further out to sea.
All in all, a great day was had by everyone!
