If there’s a better way to spend a morning than out on the water being entertained by whales…then I haven’t found it yet! There was a little bit of chop on the sea this morning, with a 10 knot northerly wind blowing.

This morning we found a pod of 2 humpbacks about 3 miles north of Pt. Cartwright. They were having a good play with pectoral slaps, tail slaps, peduncle throws and fluke up dives. We followed them for a while and another whale arrived from the South, they had a bit of a competition pod going, and then one disappeared, leaving two heading north.

We had plenty of close encounters with these 2, they swam around the boat and alongside us on their sides, very sociable whales! There were also a couple of dolphins in the mix, swimming around the whales and the boat. The two eventually split up near Mudjimba island, leaving us to follow 1 as we came around the island and back along the beach. The whale was doing a great shark impersonation! Swimming along with its dorsal fin out of the water and even flicking its tail from side to side occasionally.

Today was ‘International Pirate Day’, we celebrated on board Whale One with prizes going to the best dressed passengers, and the crew getting around in pirate attire.
