This morning the sea conditions were good with 7 knots of north-easterly wind. We saw a total of 5 whales on the 7am trip, a mother and calf who showed off with a breach, half breach and fluke up dives. The next pod we encountered were a mother, calf and escort who performed pectoral slaps and tail slaps, these three mugged the boat, including the little calf who would have been anywhere between one and twelve weeks of age. On the way back in we got to see a pod of dolphins which was a lovely treat as well.
On the midday trip we again saw mothers with calves, two separate pods who were ‘logging’ along, we got to see a spy hopping (where the whale sticks its head out of the water to have a look around) and witness the calf feeding.
Afternoon trip are currently out enjoying the whales company- watch this space!
