Sunday – 16 October Wild One whale watching
This morning the crew on Wild One reported 5 pods in total. With close encounters, pectoral fin slaps and tail slapping going on the passengers were treated to a fun time. A further 2 pods were sighted during the cruise. “A few breaches were sighted as we cruised up toward these whales”. Commented the captain.
Afternoon report from the skipper. A mother calf & escort greeted us as we cruised out of Mooloolaba Bay, we stayed with this friendly pod for a short while. We then came across another trio which started with pectoral fin slapping then one came in for some close ups which gave the passengers a great thrill. One three year old girl was very excited to see such big whales. After swimming off yet another pod were breaching & tail slapping a little way off. The seas settled and were on 1/2 to 1metre with just 10 – 15 knots of wind from the NE direction. More whales out further on the whale highway today.
