Our morning whale sightings started about 2.5 nautical miles offshore of Mooloolaba. We had a choice of 3 or 4 pods of humpback whales. We had a pod of 2 whales mugged our boat and then unexpectedly breached only 30 metres from our boat, much to the delight of our guests! Today we also put the hydro-phone over the side and could hear a male singing in the distance. To top off our morning we had an incredible dolphin display that was amazing to watch!
We headed out this afternoon and spotted 3 separate pods on our way to Old woman island. One of the pods included a yearling (a calf that is a year old) and he didn’t want to play as he came close to us on the surface and dove down deep. The next pod we saw was a pod of 2 young sub-adult males who came in for a look at us, gave us some fluke up dives and then continued their journey north to find some ladies.
Our last pod for the day were another pod of 2 humpback whales who displayed some peduncle throws and fluke up dives close to the boat.
