Today we spotted three pods as soon as we got out of the river! Our first pod was two adult humpbacks, who swam over for a close encounter and gave everyone a magnificent view! These two then did a head lunge, a few tail slaps and a breach before swimming off to continue their journey. As that pod swum away from us a competition pod with four adults swam towards the boat and spent about five minutes mugging our boat about 2.5 nautical miles offshore. We also got great surface activity out of this pod-showing off with peduncle throws and head lunges. The third pod was a bit further offshore doing the occasional breach, peck and tail slap.
This afternoon we had two adults 6 miles out slowly swimming to the south. They gave us a couple double fluke ups which were great! These two whales were cruising along very slow with down times around eight minutes.
