This morning we ended up roughly 10 miles off Kawana Beach, watching a relaxed mum and her energetic calf playing about for around 45 minutes. Watching him practicing his head lunges and breaching was like watching a puppy playing in the backyard.
On our afternoon cruise, we went out around 3 miles off the headland, watching 2 pods who clearly loved the weather with their activity! We had an enthusiastic pod very close to us giving everyone on the boat a beautiful demonstration of all the humpback whale surface behaviours. One whale in particular was putting on quite the show for us – continuously tail flapping, breaching, peck slapping, and tail lobbing.
