The cloud cleared early and the forecast rain didn’t eventuate – the sun shone on beautiful blue ocean although a sloppy confused sea was up from the storms during the night.
Had to cruise past four pods of humpbacks within a mile of the river mouth only to have to search for ages to finds whales outside the legislated 3 mile whale watching exclusion area. Eventually found a very young calf with mother and an escort. Mum was a beautiful whale with the normal white underbelly rising up her back very close to the dorsal fin! We saw another 3 pods within 1000 metres but they were all pretty quiet today so stayed with our pod and enjoyed their company.
