Today the sun was shining with a 2 metre swell and a 15 knot southerly breeze.
We viewed a mother and calf three miles east of Point Cartwright and then they disappeared much to our disappointment. Off in the distance was a whale breaching but he also went down deep. Spotting whales is normally easy. We were heading back in and then about half a mile off Point Cartwright we luckily were entertained by a mother and calf. They stayed on the surface and cruised along giving our passengers huge smiles. The size of these mammals really need to be seen to be believed. Adult whales can weigh up to 50 tonnes and a calf at birth is about 2 tonnes. The weaning age is up to 11 months and they reach physical maturity at about 12 to 15 years. Aboard Whale One we guarantee whale sightings during the whale season.
