Today Whale One and her crew came across 4 friendly humpbacks. The whales are inquisitive creatures and have ventured quite close to the boat, displaying their some lovely tail flukes and spy hops (which means popping their nose up to take a closer look. Although it has been a little breezy the whales have kept the passengers enthralled as they splashed about.

The mid morning cruise had 8 whales up close and personal. 2 x 2 pods and lots of whales further out. 1 whale breaching several times. Breaching again as I’m typing…. Just off Point Cartwright the skipper reported 7 pods during the morning cruises.

On the afternoon cruise we spotted 4 whales in total. The first pod was a mother and calf near Point Cartwright. They seemed a little boat shy, so we moved out to sea a little further. Out there we spotted a pod of 2 adult whales. These whales were showing off with some peduncle throws, fin slaps and tail slaps. They also came in for some close encounters! The lovely photo posted at the top of this post is from our afternoon cruise.
