First up for the morning on our way out we had 12 Australasian humpback dolphins in river mouth. This species was only recently identified (as recent as last month) as a separate species to the Indo-pacific humpback dolphin.
We then had a mother & calf pair 3.5 miles offshore. We stayed with this pair for about half an hour.
A pod of 3 were spotted a bit further out and it turned out to be a competition pod. This was one of the most aggressive competitions we have seen with the bulls fighting violently.
We had a full breach from the female trying to get away from it all.
Plenty of close encounters with the boat although they were a bit preoccupied.
